Smallmouth! Smallmouth! Smallmouth! The French Broad and Nolichucky Rivers have been fishing excellent. Western North Carolina has had a dry summer so far which has resulted in low and clear water on both rivers. The clear water has provided excellent topwater fishing for these hard fighting river smallmouth. This dry weather pattern will likely be the trend this summer so we should have consistent smallmouth fishing until late fall. We have wrapped up our final trout trips on the stocked fisheries, and the Catawba Tailrace until water temperatures are suitable again in October. We are solely focusing our guiding efforts on river smallmouth and wild trout in the higher elevation creeks. This is one of my favorite times of the year to guide because of the excellent fishing opportunities.
The best guided fishing trip during the summer months is our guided smallmouth float trips. We offer half day trips for $400 and full day trips for $500. Our half day trips cover 3-4 miles of water and our full day trips 6-8 miles. We offer spinning fishing trips for all skill levels and fly fishing trips for experienced anglers. The French Broad and Nolichucky rivers are beautiful rivers that every visiting angler needs to experience.
On the days our smallmouth rivers are too muddy to fish we are offering clients wild trout fishing experiences using the fly rod. These are great trips where we hike into the backcountry chasing wild rainbows, browns, and brook trout. North Carolina is home to many wild trout streams that holds resident fish. The creeks we fish are surrounded by lush forests and wildlife which is an added bonus on top of the fishing. Currently we are only offering half day wade trips for the wild trout because water temperatures are too hot to safely catch and release the fish after 11am. If you book a wild trout trip expect to start early! Our half day rates are $300 for two anglers. This is the total cost and we supply everything you need for a successful day on the water!
